The Department of Defense and the military services have stated that the level of Reserve Component contributions to the total force will continue at the same pace for many years. Currently, over 677,000 Guard and Reserve members have been mobilized for GWOT and contingency operations.

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Joe Campa retired 12 Dec. 2008 after 29 years, but he intends to serve somewhere. Whether it is working in government or closely with government, Campa said he wants to help veterans and their families in his next job.

As we enter into this new year, many of us will be reflecting on the past and making resolutions toward the future. In the multitude of resolutions we will be making and, for the most part, breaking, I believe it is appropriate that all Americans resolve to educate future generations about the sacrifices made by members of the U.S. Military.

The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS-40) suffered a boiler casualty while pier-side in Guam in December 2006. The Cable, equipped with two boilers, was conducting steam testing of boiler safety valves when two steam generating tubes failed in boiler number 1A.
