Captain Mark T. Vanderberg, USN (Ret.)

Captain Vanderberg retired from the Navy in 1997 after 27 years of active service. An unrestricted Naval Aviator, he had three aviation commands (HS-5, HS-1 and COMHSWING ONE) and two ship commands (USS MOBILE (LKA-115), USS NASSAU (LHA-4). He also had staff assignments in COMNAVAIRLANT, BUPERS, and OPNAV. He served on the board member for the U.S. Naval Institute, and director for the Naval Helicopter Association.

Captain Vanderberg joined Whitney, Bradley, and Brown as defense consultant for carrier, helicopter and training support. He was critical in the implementation of an industry-centric training program on the Department of Defense’s planning, programming and budgeting processes. As a life member of the American Association of Individual Investors, he served as the Treasurer and later as President of the Washington D.C. chapter until 2006.

Captain Vanderberg then joined the Burney Company as a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in 2008 and became a principal at Burney Associates managing a $4 million dollar portfolio. Active in Rotary Club of Blacksburg, he was an active promoter of financial literacy and a regular speaker in the Alumni Financial Literacy Educational Program.

Upon relocating to Jacksonville, FL in 2013, Captain Vanderberg is currently active in the local community with the Micah’s Backpack Program, the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program sponsored by AARP, Navy Safe Harbor Foundation in addition to the East Arlington Rotary.
