House Panel Advances $733B Defense Budget Bill Over GOP Objections
The House Armed Services Committee has passed the $733 billion National Defense Authorization Act by a 33-24 vote, the most divided the committee has been in years over the bill. Senate Republicans, backed by the White House, want a $750 billion bill. The passed bill includes a 3.1 percent pay raise for troops starting next year, greater protections for sexual assault victims, and increased oversight of military housing.
CNO Richardson Says Removal Of Naval War College President Was Warranted
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said he had enough information to warrant removing the president of the Naval War College, according to a report this week. The Associated Press recently reported on an investigation into Naval War College President Rear Adm. Jeffrey Harley over alleged excessive spending and inappropriate behavior. Harley was removed on Monday. Richardson said that while the investigation was not complete, there was enough actionable information to justify the decision.
