John Paul Jones
John Paul Jones, originally from New Mexico, was raised in the Hawaiian Islands and enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve his senior year of high school in 1964. In 1966, he reported for active duty, attending QMA school in San Diego, California. Upon graduation in Novenber, 1966, he volunteered for PCF (Swift) duty, reporting to COMCOSRONONE, CosDiv12, Da Nang, Republic of South Vietnam in January of 1967, patrolling the northern waters of the coastline for Operation Market Time. Upon rotating in January of 1968 he reported aboard the U.S.S. Hitichiti, ATF 103 in Pearl Harbor as charthouse Petty Officer.
Honorably discharged 1968, he began working on tourist and fishing boats out of Lahaina, Maui, eventually obtaining his 100 ton Coast Guard Master’s License. Then followed several years of operating big game charter fishing vessels out of Honolulu, Maui, and Kona, Hawaii.
Returning to New Mexico in 1982, he completed his education with a degree in business from Western New Mexico University in 1987.
From 1994-2000, he served as the first four-consecutive term Mayor in the 100+ history of the Town of Silver City, New Mexico.
Currently semi-retired, he now works as a Legislative Analyst for the New Mexico State Legislature during their sessions in January, February, and March. In the interim he enjoys golfing and family and friends.
