Military-Veterans Advocacy (MVA) and AUSN Board Member John Wells will be in court on Friday, Nov. 8 to argue that the stay on Blue Water Navy claims that were imposed by Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie should be immediately lifted.
MVA scored a critical victory in January in the landmark case Procopio v. Wilkie, which guaranteed that Navy veterans who did not set foot on land but were exposed to the herbicide Agent Orange while at sea should receive benefits from the VA, a benefit that would extend to around 90,000 Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.
However, after Congress passed HR 299, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, Wilkie immediately placed a stay on claims until Jan. 1, delaying these vital benefits for our veterans.
Oral arguments will take place at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, 717 Madison Place NW, Washington, D.C. This hearing is open to the public and we encourage veterans to come and make their voices heard.
