AUSN Chairman Dan Feliz and Treasurer David Vardeman proudly represented the Association of the United States Navy throughout the National Veterans Day celebrations that started with a White House Breakfast attended by Feliz.
As is tradition, the official ceremonies began with a combined color guard representing all military services executing “Present Arms” at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The nation’s tribute to its war dead as symbolized by the laying of a presidential wreath was followed by the playing of “taps.” The rest of the ceremony, attended by Feliz and Vardeman, took place in the Memorial Amphitheater.
In his remarks, President Joseph Biden referenced sentiments he has expressed many times. “We have many obligations, but only one truly sacred obligation — sacred: to prepare those we send into harm’s way and to care for them and their families when they return home and when they don’t. It’s an obligation not based on party or politics but on a promise that unites us all.”
As a fitting conclusion to the day, Feliz proudly presented the AUSN wreath of flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
