AUSN Executive Director LCDR Steve Rogers (USN, Ret.) sat down with CDR Sterling Schwab, who has 40 years combined experience in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy Reserves specializing in military intelligence. Their conversation spanned issues of national security, how the Navy is doing in the 21st century as compared to other countries and where opportunities exist for AUSN to support the U.S. Navy, its service members and families.
“When you look where our ships are all over the world, for the average American, you would be beyond surprised, you'd be dumbfounded where our ships sail and what they do,” said Sterling Schwab. “…Wherever the US Navy goes, you can count on kind of calm waters…The Navy has always helped bring peace to whatever region of the world we can.” He noted they are often called on to help countries experiencing disasters – bringing, food, water, and medical care. Haiti and Puerto Rico are two more recent examples.
